For Susan and many others growing up in Staten Island, NY, 9/11 wasn’t just a national tragedy — it was personal. “Most of my friends had family members who were either NYPD or FDNY, and they were working that day,” Susan recalls. The attack didn’t just shake the city; it changed the dynamics of entire neighborhoods. Staten Island, home to many first responders, became a hub of grief and anxiety as the reality of the attacks set in.
