Have you ever had an idea you couldn't stop thinking about—but one look at your calendar made you wonder, Where in the world would I put this?
Maybe it's a business.
A podcast.
A book.
A ministry.
A product.
A course.
Or simply something God keeps nudging you toward.
In this episode of The Encourager, I'm talking about how to build something meaningful when your life is already incredibly full.
Because I've learned something over more than two decades of building businesses and ideas while raising a family:
You don't have to start with the whole dream. You can start with 1%.
I'm walking you through three questions:
1. What would the 1% version look like?
Zoom way in. Forget the 52 podcast episodes, the website, the employees, the giant launch and everything the finished version might eventually require.
What's 1%?
2. What is the smallest version you can say yes to?
Six podcast episodes instead of 52.
One or two beta clients instead of a full service business.
Three prototypes instead of an entire product collection.
Four emails instead of committing to a year-long newsletter.
Eight women around your kitchen table instead of planning a giant event.
3. What is the freest—or most affordable—version?
Research.
Test.
Ask questions.
Gather feedback.
Create one prototype.
Serve one customer.
Run the tiny experiment before investing in the giant version.
I also share how I've used this exact approach in my own life—from starting my purse business by sewing after work and attending a $30 local show, to protecting the dream of writing my book during a season when my calendar simply couldn't hold the actual writing yet.
Here's the reminder I hope you carry with you:
Zechariah 4:10 reminds us not to despise small beginnings.
That one client matters.
That one chapter matters.
That hour of research matters.
Those three products matter.
That first tiny act of obedience matters.
Your first version doesn't have to prove that you can build the entire thing.
It only needs to teach you what to do next.
