#129 - Michael Alago : More Than Just The Guy Who Signed Metallica

In this episode Truth talks with Michael Alago – former A&R executive for Elektra and Geffen records, and the guy responsible for signing Metallica, White Zombie, Metal Church, PIL, The Misfits, Flotsam and Jetsam, and more! He also authored an autobiography, “I Am Michael Alago: Breathing Music. Signing Metallica. Beating Death.” There is a documentary by Drew Stone about him currently streaming on Tubi, YouTube, Amazon Prime, etc. called “Who the F**ck Is That Guy? The Fabulous Journey of Michael Alago.”

 

The two discuss his love for music, growing up in NYC, how he broke into the music industry – and his 25 year career as an A&R executive,  the differences and changes in New York and the music industry then and now, signing and working with Metallica on the Master of Puppets LP, being present for the early thrash scene, hanging and developing and signing White Zombie, working with Johnny Lydon (Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols) and PIL – as well as their infamous riot show, Cyndi Lauper, his photography, becoming sober from drugs and alcohol, overcoming death and HIV, his book and documentary and so much more!
