- Leads with quiet confidence, consistency, and professionalism.

- Embodies grace, sportsmanship, and respect on and off the ice.
- Carries themselves with humility, even in moments of success or hardship.

- Willingness to go above and beyond for the team or community.
- Shows dedication through actions that may come at personal or professional cost—reflecting Schmidt’s decision to leave the NHL to serve in WWII.

- Eligible Recipients: retired players - return to work for team after retirement
- Honours Milt Schmidt’s Legacy: This award becomes not just about performance, but about the soul of a hockey career—commitment, class, and continuity.
