The A’s young core is catching fire at the right time, and Tuesday night in Minnesota was another example. Shea Langeliers launched his 27th home run of the year, a two-run shot that gave the A’s a lead they would never surrender. Tyler Soderstrom extended his hitting streak to 17 games with an infield single and later pulled off a brilliant heads-up baserunning play, scoring on a shallow sacrifice fly to push the lead. Rookie Nick Kurtz went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two walks, setting the table all night long. Against All-Star starter Joe Ryan, the A’s lineup struck for five runs in four innings, forcing Minnesota to play from behind.
On the mound, Jacob Lopez continued his breakout August, striking out eight over six innings for his fourth straight win. He finally gave up a run after a 24-inning scoreless streak, but limited the Twins to just three tallies while baffling hitters with his fastball-slider mix. Justin Sterner bridged the gap with two clean innings, and Hogan Harris sealed his first career save in the ninth. With the win, the A’s improved to 16-13 since the All-Star break—just a game behind Seattle for the best record in the AL West in that span. The so-called rebuilding A’s aren’t just playing out the string—they’re making noise, spoiling contenders’ plans, and proving their future might be arriving sooner than expected.
