Montreal Canadiens EXPOSE weaknesses in Buffalo Sabres with relentless 5-on-5 play | Hometown heroes

Montreal Canadiens outclass the Buffalo Sabres in a shootout thriller, but can their surging French connection sustain this level? Laura Saba and Ian Boisvert break down Montreal’s five-on-five dominance, Alex Texier’s breakout, and the standout play of Phillip Danault and Zack Bolduc. Special teams shine with a flawless penalty kill and a power play finally clicking, while Alex Carrier’s overtime heroics highlight a resilient blue line missing key names like Mike Matheson.

Buffalo’s low-danger goals spark debate: Is Montreal’s defensive structure leaving their goalies out to dry, or is this just bad puck luck? The hosts scrutinize Adam Engstrom’s unlucky deflections, Jake Evans’ relentless penalty kill, and the emergence of Zach Benson as the next NHL super pest. Plus, intriguing questions persist around Oliver Kapanen’s “day-to-day” status and the Habs’ long-term process. Can Montreal turn strong process into consistent results—and a spot in the postseason race?
