Heads Up - A USA Wrestling Podcast: S2 E9 featuring Joan Fulp and Andrea Yamamoto

For the first time in history, Joan Fulp and Andrea Yamamoto were honored in 2020 as USA Wrestling's co-Women of the Year. Active for decades in our sport, both made a decision to work together and focus on the creation of girls' wrestling on the state level. Joan Fulp (National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2017) and Andrea Yamamoto discuss teamwork, the growth of Girl's Wrestling, the importance of Women's Wrestling in our sport and society, and concepts of successful coaching that go far beyond gender or sport specific skills. Joan became the first woman to be elected to USA Wrestling's Executive Board in 2020. She taught and coached women's gymnastics at Central Michigan University for three years and served as an elementary and adapted physical education teacher in Half Moon Bay, CA for 24 years. Joan states, “Why should a sport that develops focus, determination, self-reliance, mental toughness and self-confidence only be available to half the population?”Andrea represented Team USA on six national teams and at five World Championships.
