Steve Gelbs Reveals the Advice That Changed His Mets Broadcasting Career

SNY’s Steve Gelbs joins Jay Horwitz to discuss his evolution from Mets field reporter to play-by-play broadcaster and the advice that helped him find his own voice in the booth. Gelbs shares how Howie Rose supported him before his first regular-season broadcast, what he has learned from Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling, and whether play-by-play could become a bigger part of his future. He also tells the story behind his viral ballpark hot dog reviews, including a ridiculous appearance with David Wright and the mustard review that caused Mets fans to sell out the product online.
